Suite per a clarinet [Suite for Clarinet] is one of the earliest works by my youth. It was written to recover the playful pleasure of chamber music. It is a melodic work with an important component of harmony and counterpoint.
The work has four movements:
-The first movement, «Preludi» [Prelude], has a happy character and contrasts the clarinet melody with a rhythmic piano accompaniment. It is the beginning of the day.
- In «Ària» we find a moment of lyrical reflection. Very expressively, the clarinet emerges from the lowest notes of the piano. The movement evokes the end of the afternoon.
- The music of the third movement, «Rítmic» [Rhythmic], seems to transport us to the interior of a machine in which the mechanical activity generates a continuous movement. We are constantly moving and the rhythm of the city inexorably pushes us forward.
-The work ends with «Caribeña» [Caribbean]. Caribbean rhythms mix harmoniously with progressions which are typical of Baroque music in this movement in which the clarinet seems to dance to the sound of the piano. The sun shines brilliantly and underneath some palm trees the rhythm takes center stage.
