After its premiere on February 12, 1924, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue became an overnight success. Over time, moreover, it became a symbol of American music abroad, an inspiration for generations of composers to come, and a beloved piece of concert repertoire around the world. Rooted in American popular music of the era, the piece fuses musical influences from jazz, the Caribbean and Europe into a fluid romantic concerto form. As Gershwin recalled, "I heard it as a kind of musical kaleidoscope of America, of our vast melting pot, of our matchless national mood, of our blues, of our metropolitan madness." Guerassim Voronkov's interesting arrangement for violin and piano brings out the lyricism of the piece, while maintaining the emotion of the original version.
