Perpetuum Mobile, for violin and piano (1969).
This work is dedicated to Agustín León Ara and his disciples, a fact that suggests on it an educational potential without excluding the musical interest. In fact, in the violin literature there are many examples that combine this dual dimension: the didactic functionality and the artistic entity. If here we can perceive the substrate of the traditional studies of the instrument -and other famous examples of the violin repertoire- Cervello assumes these models from a very imaginative personal perspective. The speed of the tempo -and a remarkable ingenuity in the tonal mutations of the thematic cells and the secuencial motives- results in a virtuosic piece of irresistible vitality. Despite of its basically tonal character -masked by overlaying chords- and an invariable pulse does not exclude the surprise of the unexpected turn, both melodic and rhythmic aspect.
