La Caula, Viola and Piano.
During the summer of 2019, Jordi Cervelló composed this work which is a three-movement sonata for viola and piano. For his inspiration the composer recreates one of the waterfalls found in the small town of Les Escaules in the Alt Empordà. Near there he has a home which provided his with the setting for his inspiration.
The first movement, «Allegretto Scherzando», and the third, «Vivo», are full of vitality. The writing for the viola is virtuosistic and very resolute with a continuous variety of rhythmic formulas. The middle movement, «Andante sostenuto», is in contrast with the other two, being lento and misterioso reflecting dripping water. It is dedicated to Isabel Villanueva.
