THE MATERIALS HAVE TO BE HIRED
During the summer of 2006 I checked Cadmos et d’Harmonie, a concertino for guitar and strings written in 1994. I decided to extend some fragments and remove others so I could give more unity to each one of the five movements.
There are several genres and styles crossed in this play. The opera-ballet from the French baroque, the concertante music and a bit of neoclassicism are the main elements that distinguish the composition.
However, there is still another connection with historical elements. Cadmos et Harmonie is a tribute to a very neoclassical Stravinsky, who is the composer of Apollon Musagete. The structure in five movements follows, approximately, the division in five numbers of the classic ballet. The play is conceived to be performed either as a concertino for guitar and strings or as music for a ballet.
The characters mentioned in the title belong to Greek mythology. Cadmos built Tebas' Acropolis and eventually married Armonia, who was Afrodita's and Zeus' daughter. According to Robert Graves, that was the first wedding between mortals where the Olympic Gods attended to.
