This composition for oboe, clarinet and bassoon contains references to popular music and to a somewhat pastoral ambience. The titles precisely evoke both aspects: in the days of troubadours, «Pastorela» (or Pastorale) was a poetic composition with an affectionate nature; «Song» represents a contemplative melody, not lacking in lyricism; whilst «Villanesca» is rather rustic in style and constitutes a movement that is filled with a healthy happiness. The vision of a rural landscape, a kind of «happy Arcadia», in which three shepherds play their instruments in the midst of nature, was the idyllic image that the composer imagined when writing these notes.
