The compositions of Manuel Blancafort are usually divided into two different categories: 1. Works for piano solo, most of which were written in his youth; and 2. His symphonic works. Nevertheless, Blancafort also composed works for voice and chamber music.
This collection includes three songs for voice and piano that Blancafort wrote at different times in his life. Since Blancafort was influenced by the French Impressionists we believe that it is appropriate to groups these songs together with the title Tres melodías (Three Melodies) in the same manner as the short vocal works by Fauré, Debussy or Ravel.
The text of the final song in this collection, Ja no seràs mai més record… (You Will Never Again Be Only a Memory...), comes from a cycle of poems by Josep Janés El combat del somni (The Battle of Dreams), which is especially known in the collection of five songs written by Blancafort’s intimate friend, Frederic Mompou.
