For the preparation of this Interpretative guide of the Tonadillas en estilo antiguo, Marisa Martins and I studied the interpretations of Conchita Badia, Victoria de los Angeles and Pilar Lorengar accompanied by Alicia de Larrocha.

It goes without saying that there are important differences in the way Alicia de Larrocha accompanied the three singers, each with their own personality. Coincidentally I was lucky to work with Alicia in depth on three different occasions and with different singers.

The last occasion was preparing recording with Marisa. Along with Alicia, we relived her memories and recordings she had done with Victoria de los Angeles, Pilar Lorengar and Conchita Badia. Alicia shared her knowledge and experience, especially in here work with Conchita Badia. Although she had recorded it more than 40 years ago, she remembered clearly the work they had done together.

It is well known that Granados was Conchita Badia’s mentor. In his personal copy of the Tonadillas which is preserved in the National Library of Catalonia written by Granados is a dedication: "To the “resalada” interpreter of these songs, Conchita Badía." her performance with Alicia, the most important and recognized heir to the pianistic tradition of Granados was a great help to us.
Alicia also enriched us with the decisions taken with Victoria de los Angeles for the preparation of their concerts, which she would always play from memory.
