This work consists of three somewhat contrasting movements, it was written within a language very close to the impressionistic style of the early 20th century.
The title of Sonata Dórica (Doric sonata) is due to two different concepts closely interrelated in the history of art: music and architecture. These concepts appear in the work with the use of the scale of the doric mode in its main themes and adopting by analogy the form of a Greek column in the general structure and in each movement in particular: crepidoma, shaft and capital. The three movements of the work obey to the three disciplines that inspired Greek tragedy: poetry, music and dance.
