The Fundació Música Contemporània and Editorial Boileau, in their commitment to support contemporary Catalan musical creation, have published six works by Catalan composers for voice and piano inspired by poems by J. V. Foix. Each composer has chosen a poem suited to his own expressive interests, and the result is this series of scores, with very different styles and aesthetic affinities, which will enable us to explore current Catalan musical production. All the works have as a common link the poetry of an extraordinary poet, J. V. Foix, whose texts have "inspired" each of the composers and have provoked a personal musical creation, which will free the words from their most immediate meaning and place us on another plane, possibly closer to the real content of the poem. The music will be able to transcend the meaning of the words, evoking the spirit and mystery of texts which in turn have stimulated the musical creation of six composers who are very different in their compositional approaches but committed to the same expressive idea.
Joaquim Homs (1906-2004)
One of the first followers of dodecaphonism in Catalonia, he knew how to extract from the rigidity of the rigidity of the compositional system an aesthetic of his own marked by structural rigour, while remaining mindful of the expressive intensity of his music.
