The ten years I lived in the United States (five in New York City, where my sons Larry and Johnny were born, and five in San Diego, California) gave me the opportunity to get to know this great country, where I made and still keep great friends. Being generally open-minded and interested in the different musical languages and aesthetics of our planet, I always had the desire to compose something with an "American" flavour. I have never had the chance until now. I have a very good relationship with the Indiana University Bloomington School of Music, where I have given some master classes. My distinguished friend, Professor Carlos Montané, has been teaching there for many years. He asked me to compose a song in memory of the young student Rebeka, who tragically lost her life in a car accident on an American highway. With alarm bells ringing, an official ceremony (in memoriam) will take place on 15 March 2008 in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, where the song "Rebeka's Rainbow", which I composed especially for this occasion, will be premiered. It is an unpretentious little piece that I hope will please not only the listeners but also Rebeka from above.
