A youthful work composed in 1928. The strength and the essence of tonality is one of the magical aspects that fills our Western perspective of musical history. It both surprises and at the same time demands admiration that in spite of the rigorous tonal structures throughout musical history there are subtle character changes in tonality through all the composers who wrote tonal works throughout the centuries. For example, we can see how the tonality of d minor in Bach, Chopin or Janacek is filled with their own individual colors. The tonality of Blancafort also has an original and unique dimension. In this brief and perfect work, as the title Pastorel·la indicates, the tonality of F Major evokes the impalpable pastoral atmosphere that is found in the «Spring» Sonata or the 6th Symphony by Beethoven. However, in this work these balanced harmonious spaces are in a smaller format.
The naive and serene character that envelops almost all the piece except for the coda with its almost disturbing bass. In the final measures the sonorities are once again crystalline.
