In his compositional career and particularly during the first stage of it, Josep M. Ruera wrote several pieces for chamber music ensemble that subsequently were corrected and reused, which led to errors in the dating of the work. Is that the case of Meditación (Meditation), which was composed by Ruera in 1925, but it was not released until the 70's, with its addition as part in the ongoing programs of the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona.
Meditación (Meditation) for flute or clarinet in B flat and piano, is a work, as Ruera himself tells us in a letter of the 70's, «[...] with meditative character only in the first and last bars, everything else is exaltation. Overall it is a work that wants to be played passionately. Intemperance? Romanticism? ... I do not know. What I like most of it is the reflecting of moments from a period of my life.»
