A ship of moorish pirates –expelled from Valencia in 1609- takes over and capture a catalan ship. Among the passengers is a young girl called Blanca and her father Don Carlos, an official man of the inquisition, they belong to an aristocratic family.
The objective of the pirates, lead by Saïd, is to obtain a good ransom from the prisioners and to sell the women at the slave market in Argel, a regular and known practice of that time. During the crossing to Argel, the hated relationship between the two groups becomes harder and trained, but between Blanca and Saïd sprouts a mutual flow of affection which soon transforms into a passionate love. This relationship makes the pirates feel betrayed by their captain and they threaten him by almost rioting; in the other hand the Christians condemned Blanca strongly for the religious, social and racial betray.
The Christians defeat and get rid of the pirates by bringing the pirate Joanot, and recover the ship’s control. But when they are about to execute Saïd, Blanca defends him with her own live by facing the rest of Christians and her father.
When Blanca helps Saïd to escape in a title boat, they are found and Don Carlos shots Saïd dead. Blanca decides to kill herself as a result of this killing. The performance ends having a reflection on the consequences of racial and nationalist resentment, with all the dramatic implications.
(The first performance of Mar i Cel –Sea and Sky- by the theater company Dagoll Dagom, was at the Teatre Victoria in Barcelona, October 11th 1988)
