This book is the result of the proposal of oboist and pedagogue Almudena Jambrina to adapt to the oboe "La història d’en Sax, la petita balena." In this story, animated by the saxophonist, pedagogue and composer David Salleras, I transferred the ideas and work methodology of my piano books "Salta, saltiró!", "Un viatge imprevist", "Contes al piano" ...
From the close collaboration with Almudena, the book "La història de la petita balena Obo" has emerged (the twin brother of Sax), with the aim of promoting and developing the expressive imagination of the small oboists, capable of sonorously paint the story's scenes. By giving life to the various characters through music, we help children, little and not so little, to find and recreate sounds and phrases that they themselves can value and, therefore, to make a real work of interpretation.
Thus, with the piece "Fent bombolletes" we invite students, from their first contact with the instrument, to be aware of the importance of the breathing and the air column for long notes. The identification of the oboist with the balloon, the small but bulky protagonist of this story, fills with emotion and adventure of learning. With the Obo we will also discover the sound of the human voice while playing a song of African cradle, we will face a dangerous shark, we will play with fish, fish and turtles, and even we will hear a curious conversation between a starfish and a pop
In order to familiarize the small oboists with the sounds and resources typical of contemporary music, we have introduced elements such as bubbles, frullato, multifonic, glissandos, bisbigliando and the "sound of the air" to help us to recreate the marine landscape of this story.
This book is intended to accompany the students of Oboe along the elementary level, including pieces of different difficulty for oboe alone, duets that students can interpret with the teacher and a quartet of oboes to which they are also added , at the end of the story, a soloist. We have written all the pieces for Oboe, but we leave the teacher's use of English corn and the Oboe of love in the accompaniment of some pieces.
It is also an objective of the book to serve as a tool in the oboe classrooms of the music schools and conservatories to organize an activity where the students of the different levels participate in the interpretation of this story.
Take a deep breath, let's start playing!
