Ka-Din is a work for violin and piano in a single movement, written between May and June 2011. Its name came to me spontaneously, as a very musical phonetic expression. As it happens, I discovered that it is a real word, of Turkish origin and related to beauty.
The work begins in a picaresque way, Prokofiev-style. Next, two melodic themes determine its expressive nature. There appears yet a third theme, enveloped in a mysterious atmosphere. This substance keeps alternating until it reaches two short violin cadences, within a quiet and thoughtful atmosphere. Then, a quick coda brings us to a cheerful and virtuosic finale.
Ka-Din is dedicated to my friend, great violinist and orchestra conductor Vladimir Spivakov.
