It is a great pleasure for me to welcome this new edition of the Inventions and Symphonies of J. S. BACH by my colleague Ludovica Mosca. These masterpieces need a considerable amount of information and musical background to transform them into living music. Once again, Ms. Mosca meticulously unites scholarship, imagination and pedagogical zeal to offer performers multiple ways to relate these pieces to other baroque works by Bach and his contemporaries, as well as to the dance forms of the time. I strongly encourage young - and not so young! - students to approach these wonderful examples of Bachian counterpoint through an accurate text and, more importantly, with appreciation and joy.
