The piano was Manuel Oltra's instrument for a wide range of activities: as a performer, as an accompanist, as a composer and as a vehicle for his pedagogical work.

In his creative side, he dedicated a small but very select part of his production to the piano. Within his youthful work, in the period from 1940 to 1950, we find many examples of chamber music: for solo piano or for piano with solo instruments such as violin, cello or flute. Editorial de música Boileau publishes for the first time several examples of this work full of vitality and of the original aesthetics that Oltra has established from very early on. An aesthetic that has to be placed in a post-impressionism that represents a new air to the Catalan music. Within this production is Égloga (for flute, cello and piano) Op. 11 (1945).
