This work is inspired by the relationship between my wife and her grandfather. A relationship that I know thanks to what she explained to me, given that her grandfather died when she was still very young. The relationship was closer than normal, in that he was like a father to her and this meant that his memory was very deep and filled with longing.
I have based this work on the reunion between the two of them, a fantasy of what it would be like, a dream placed between the living and the dead, found in the music of these two characters; he on the left, she on the right, he in another world and she in a dream, a "fantasy for four hands" the meeting where they intertwine and take each other's hand to fly together, … until the moment of truth arrives. It's just a dream.
Thanks Laura for making me feel all of this. Thanks for loving your grandfather so much. If it hadn't been for that, this music would never have been written. Thank you also to the Vela sisters who, with their art and a brief explanation of the work, moved me so much on hearing them play. There is no theory or anything at all to overshadow this feeling, and with this and nothing further to add, I leave it in the hands of the listener to enjoy. In your hands music will never die.
