The Etude Op. 10, no. 12 in C minor, known as the Revolutionary Etude, is a piece for solo piano by Frédéric Chopin composed around 1831. It is the twelfth in his first series of etudes (Twelve Grand Études) dedicated to his friend Franz Liszt. Chopin's two series of etudes, Opus 10 and Opus 25, are known as Chopin Etudes, although the Polish composer has three other minor etudes.

The etude appeared around the time of the Cadet Revolution, the November Uprising in Poland in 1831. Chopin was unable to participate due to his frail health, so he vented his feelings about the revolution in many pieces of music, the best known of which is this Revolutionary Etude. Chopin later said of the failure of the uprising against Russia: ‘All this has caused me a lot of pain. Who could have foreseen it!

In contrast to etudes of earlier periods, which were designed to emphasise and develop particular technical aspects, the romantic etudes of composers such as Liszt and Chopin have often been used as concert pieces, although they still share the same aim of developing technique in front of the instrument.
