El tendón de mi pesar was written in 2008 while I was recovering from an operation in 2007 to repair a torn tendon on my right knee.
As I began composing, my earliest works were mostly cerebral. Through time, and with greater knowledge about the sonic world, my music became more expressive while I attempted to maintain a balance between the heart and the mind. However, I always kept in mind as a basic premise the formal structure of my compositions.
We are constantly influenced by the world in which we live, and it is very difficult to remove ourselves from that world. In the composition of this work the most important factor, apart from my musical knowledge necessary for its composition, were the new circumstances that affected me. One of my favorite hobbies is running some eight kilometers three times a week, which I do without fail. Due to the tear of my tendon I found myself confined to bed for several months without any possibility of continuing my normal routine. But, at the same time, given the circumstances, I had as much time as I could wish for to write a work that would reflect the different state of mind which my inner feelings led me to express. Frankly, in spite of everything, the composition of El tendón de mi pesar was very satisfying for me.
