This doctoral thesis is attached to the line of research on issues related to the musical activity of the city of Barcelona between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. In this sense, the objective of the following work is to draw a historical overview of piano activity in Barcelona between 1880 and 1936. To this end, this thesis presents a detailed compilation and description of both the piano manufacturers and the set of venues that hosted the different concerts, and also recovers the history of the music academies, many of them disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century.

At the same time, this study pays special attention to the piano events that have now been forgotten, even though they had a great impact on the public and the press of their time.

It also presents the activity of various pianists, including the main foreign interpreters who performed in the city.

However, it should be noted that the main volume of the research has focused on a detailed analysis of the Catalan pianists, both the most illustrious and those who, although acclaimed in their time, today have disappeared from the historiography of Catalan music.
