Chamber music is a perfect genre in which to develop the guitar’s expressive abilities. Its harmonic dimension complements the tunefulness of bow instruments, making it possible to produce a rich polyphonic effect at the same time as strangely appealing tone colours.
The extension of the chamber music repertoire to include the guitar provides a significant contribution towards consolidating this instrument as a cultured instrument although – at least from my point of view- in order to give it this consolidation, it is not enough to provide it with worthy repertoire; you also need the most en vogue guitar schools to develop a technique to make it possible to obtain a sufficiently vigorous sound to allow a balance to be reached between the guitar and the bow instruments without the latter having to give up their natural sound.
Four short pieces deep in the possibilities of a dialogue between the violin and the guitar, exploting both the polyphonic and contrapuntal texture in pieces 1 and 3, and the themes of a more rhythmic and playful character in pieces 2 and 4.
