Within the varied repertoire of Pau Casals compositions there is a collection of works for choral ensembles which is quite extended and presents an outstanding musical content. In this edition of the cellist and conductor’s complete works, we have grouped them into five different volumes. Under the name of Cicle Montserratí (Montserrat Series), the first and second volumes contain a group of eight pieces devoted to Our Lady of Montserrat and, in most cases, intended for the community of monks and acolytes of the said monastery. Because of the way in which the present edition is organized, these two volumes also contain other choral works with various subject matters. The three remaining volumes are monographic collections exclusively dedicated to choral or choral symphony works that respond to specific moments of the creative career of the composer and deal with unusual subject matters.
