It is a chamber music work for woodwind trio, 7 to 7:30 minutes long, composed for flute, oboe-English horn in F and clarinet in Bb. It begins with a Vivace tempo and an agile and very articulated dynamic. We should pay attention to these articulations, accents, etc., as they are like the presentation and identity card of this work. It continues with curious contrapuntal turns, initiated by the oboe and preceded by the flute and clarinet, later changing their order of appearance. We give way to the Adagio, full of expression and fantasy, due to the melodic turns that follow one after the other in the three instruments, in constant and varied forms. We arrive at Un Poco Più Tempo, which leads us to a new movement, Largo. Interestingly, some changes of time signatures 4/4, 3/8, 3/4 and 6/8 will continue, which will give the musical discourse a certain air of ballet and/or modern jazz music. Likewise, certain amalgam changes of time signatures will appear, to give way to the Allegro Vivo (bar 160), where the "leitmotiv" or main theme of this whole cadential process will appear, which will lead us without further ado to the re-exposition of the initial theme, which will be developed to conclude the work.
In short, music of great and varied dynamics, with constant changes of articulation, contrapuntal and melodic turns, changes of meter and tempo, etc., which make this work, as its title, Contrasts, indicates, a piece of agile, fresh, original, modern and pleasant music to listen to and perform at all times.
