The scarce participation of guitar literature in the most significant trends of musical romanticism is well known. It is enough to look at the works of Schubert or Schumann to realise the many aspects of their music that are close to the language of the guitar, but which have hardly found expression through our instrument. My interest in delving into the possibilities of the romantic language applied to the guitar is motivated by the desire to develop elements of that aesthetic on the basis of my own instrumental formulas.

The 24 Romantic Fantasies written in all major and minor keys, which I have published previously, have allowed me to discover new technical-expressive aspects in our instrumental literature, speeding up the modulatory processes and treating practically unexplored tonalities. Now, with these first Fantasías Sonatas, I develop new ideas under the same stylistic concept but structuring them according to more complex forms. The qualifier of Fantasia with which I accompany the name Sonata, besides indicating its formal independence with respect to the classical sonata, serves me to establish a difference with those which, within my production, I simply call Sonatas and which are written in a language with very different characteristics.
