The key of A flat major has been considered by composers as one of the least favourable tonal areas for the guitar to develop its possibilities. Jaume Torrent, in his Fantasia-Sonata nº 3, treats this tonality with a great mastery of tonal language without forcing the instrument with inappropriate technical demands, while at the same time discovering new guitaristic aspects. He has constructed the main motifs of each movement from the same intervallic cell (C-B natural -Fa) and has elaborated the thematic designs in such a way that they can assimilate varied harmonies and audacious modulatory processes, thus transforming this traditionally arduous tonality into a flexible platform at the service of his inspired creativity.
