Lluís Vergés
(Barcelona, 1953)
Professor of composition for soundtracks at the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), which makes him a specialist in this field and the ideal profile to write this book. He studied music at the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona, where he obtained his degree. As a professional he works for different groups and orchestras, for television and also as a session musician. As a composer, arranger and orchestrator he has collaborated with different groups, advertising and cinema, as well as with symphonic and chamber ensembles. During the last thirty years he has alternated his professional work with teaching, teaching in numerous schools and giving seminars, master’s degrees, etc…
He was the pedagogical director of the Taller de Músics for thirteen years, which allowed him to develop his own methodologies in the disciplines of language, harmony and arrangements, which were reflected in the publication of several books, the use of which as pedagogical texts is still in use today. He currently teaches at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in the disciplines of Jazz Techniques and Styles (Jazz Harmony), Jazz Arrangements I and II, Jazz Composition and Film Scoring. Also, at the same school, he participates in the teaching of two master’s degrees: Barcelona Jazz master and Composition of soundtracks and music for audiovisual media, in the subjects Composition techniques for soundtracks and Orchestration for soundtracks. The present volume is the fruit of his teaching activity over the years, during which he has come to the conviction that it is difficult to go deeper into composition today without a solid education, especially one that takes diversity as a starting point.
